Hi Brendon. Soul Destruction was actually The Almighty's 3rd album. Their first album was called Blood Fire & Love. They followed this up with a live album called Blood Fire & Live. Then came the mighty Soul Destruction. I know that you are not a fan of live albums but both these cds are worth tracking down.

I need to get that Sunbomb album. Petra is one of my top 5 favorite bands. Their best albums were from 1977 (Come and Join Us) to 1993 (Wake-Up Call). They did a cover of God Gave Rock n Roll to You on the second album Come and Join Us. Many people who don't consider themselves Christians are realizing how good many of the Christian Oriented bands are. Christian Rock or Contemporary Christian Music has been around since the late 60s with artists like Larry Norman. The Hard Rock and Heavier Music started around the mid to late 70s with artists like Resurrection Band (REZ for short) and Swedish band Jerusalem. Both bands released about a dozen or more albums including live albums over the years. Rez stopped around 2000 and do the odd live date. Jerusalem is still active mostly in Europe and released an album sung in Swedish last year called Stygn and will release an English version called Stitch or Stitches this year. Christian Hard Rock and Metal really took off in the early to mid 80s with bands like Bloodgood, Barren Cross, Barnabas, Leviticus, Messiah Prophet, Saint (similar to Judas Priest and Accept), Daniel Band and Stryper. That Holy Soldier was an awesome find! Last Train is a more bluesier album. I have a Japanese version of that too with different artwork. I paid around $23 Canadian years ago and now it's running around $50 or more. They released Promise Man in 1995 which is more grungier and a mostly live album/studio album called Encore in 1997. Other bands similar to Stryper and Holy Soldier you may want to check out besides the ones mentioned are: Guardian, Siloam, Angelica, Crystavox, Fear Not (similar to Skid Row and Slaughter), Narnia, Sacred Warrior (similar to Queensryche and Iron Maiden) and X-Sinner (similar to Cinderella, Def Leppard and Helix).

Excellent topic gentleman. My opinion is this.... I buy used vinyl from the 50s thru late 80s because it was recorded, mixed, and mastered in analog. I buy cd's from late 80s forward because most recording studios converted to digital. I can hear the difference between the two formats, but I like them both. I will only buy reissues of classics on vinyl when necessary, but do not/have not purchased new releases on vinyl. Most used cds in upstate NY where I live are $4 to $5. Used vinyl is more but I don't care if it's something I want. Anything new since 1990 I buy on cd, and cd is cheaper than vinyl. Having said all that - power to the music lovers/collectors of the world!

I should have stopped when he said Bounce was dead last. I stuck with it until he put the Self Titled at 13 and then I stopped. Self titled should be in the top 5 easily in everyone's rankings.

If you like non preachy Christian rock. You should listen to Theocracy. They are on the progressive metal side.

Great that you're digging into Petra! I have all their discography and love it, even considering all the changes in personnel and style. And I value the fact that they are spreading the word of God for 50 years (being myself a Christian). If you don't have Beyond Belief and Beat the System albums, I highly recommend them to you.

I must be the only one who isn't digging the new Pearl Jam. It's ok, but hardly a return to matching the first few records. Agree the new Priest album is killer! Love the Bruce Dickinson album too. Don't know why that's getting some hate. Unleash The Archers and Vanden Plas are two albums that you simply HAVE to check out! Both are incredible records!

It's strange with Pete Best that I read he attended my primary school in the 1940s/1950s. Then it dawned on me that I knew a girl called Bonita Best who we used to joke was related to the soccer player George Best. It turns out that Pete Best was her father. I often wonder if my mother met him at parents evening!

Its been a weird year so far, March was a huge month for me from what I have been playing alot, also April too, and then June there has been some lulls some albums I liked off the bat and then forgot, usually happens with anything in January for me, last time a January/ February album stuck with me all year was the Pretty Reckless "Death By Rock N Roll" came out Feb 2021 and all year it stuck with me. I liked the Green Day off the bat and then when things in March came out for me at least I forgot it. Bon Jovi, Lenny Kravitz are strong for me, Kacey Musgraves might not be the rocker but the recording of this album in NYC and the sonic sound and mixing is better than anything I have heard , The new Daryl Hall hit me right away which is a shock because I love Hall and Oates but his solo albums are not that good to me, this one 9 songs 35+ minutes perfect statement thats what I like, sometimes artists tack on too much stuff. The new Sheryl Crow is a monster to me but I get her point, you do these amazing new records and new songs and thats everyone "piss break" at a show, so it's frustrating. To me I rather an artist do an amazing new record and play nothing from anything else, nothing on the ticket says they have to play hits. Also the group Lake Street Dive they've been around awhile but get ready I think they are about to be the new "grammy darling", Crowded House new one is solid, The Black Crowes again one of the best of the year to me also an indie funk bass player BLU Detiger she's based out of NYC the fact that she realizes how Prince was a better bass player than even guitar and knows alot of his licks she's getting a lot of respect from top rockers now, also on the Prince "tip" Judith Hill's newest release one of the best of the year.

Great finds yet again Brendon. There seems to be so much more choice of CDs in the US. I'd love to find such a varied array of CDs here in the UK. Tell me Brendon, do you replace the jewel cases on your used finds, they always look so clean and new?

Totally agree with your comments regarding Bruce Dickinsons album. Its really good and dare I also suggest better than recent Iron Maiden albums.

Yeah! I recently bought Mark Free - Long Way From Love online, and guess what was sitting in the record store? Well, at least I got the reissue with the bonus stuff so it was still worth it. I got the last Dare album that I needed: Beneath The Shining Water. I'm quite fond of their softer years. And today I got the s/t Aviary album in the mail, it's not my usual stuff but looking forward to hearing it. Oh, I also picked up Trevor Rabin - Rio after really enjoying Can't Look Away.

You should check out the christian band RedSea. They only put out one album in 1994 called "Blood". It's a great album. The band included Greg Chaisson and Jeff Martin on bass and drums, from the band Badlands.

Great, that you discovered Russ Ballard. He is one of my top 5 songwriters. My favorite album from him is "Barnet Dogs" with the hit-single "On The Rebound". This song was covered by Uriah Heep on their "Abominog" album. Saw him three times live and he is such a nice guy, too.

Jon doesn't want to disappoint the fans and if he cant be his best and 100 percent he wont tour because he doesn't want to charge money if he cant sing, and doesn't want to be a nostalgic artist .i can kinda understand peoples anger if they are paying hundreds to see favorite bands and they are dying on stage.a few bands put records out and dont tour for that reason, or some only tour amd dont put on new music ,poison hasnt put out a new record in yrs.
